Letter of Information.
Thank you very much for your interest in our twelve-month oral and maxillofacial surgery internship program. This internship program has been available for a number of years and has been quite successful in preparing those individuals who feel they need additional experience following graduation from dental school in order to make their applications competitive for advanced education in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The internship position is fully integrated with our residency program and consists of 12 months of clinical oral and maxillofacial surgery.
At the present time, one or two rotations are currently planned for the academic year. These rotations include oral and maxillofacial surgery at Charity Hospital (six months), and oral and maxillofacial surgery at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge (six months).
We plan to offer two positions, each of which is fully funded with a resident stipend. In addition, during the six months rotation in Baton Rouge, living expenses are taken care of as the resident and intern live in apartments provided by the LSU Medical Center.
If you have applied to our residency program, we will simply activate your existing application for consideration beginning in February. If you have not previously applied to our program, please complete the standard advanced education application package. The department phone number is (504) 619-8565.

After completion, return the application along with a photograph and three letters of recommendation. A second letter should be from the dean of the dental school or his designated representative to indicate your academic credentials. The third letter should be from one of your faculty who can discuss your talents. Also required are undergraduate college and dental school transcripts.
The application deadline is February 1. We will fill these positions as soon as possible barring any unforeseen delays in receiving application materials. If you wish to have your application considered, it is in your best interest to get these materials to us as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us.
Sincerely,
